Between the sunny California cities of Santa Barbara and Ventura lies a community that not even locals of either city are truly aware of—and its residents prefer it that way. The residents include one of America’s first female surfers, a former antique shop owner whose customers included Michael Jackson, and a man whom residents simply call “the Mayor” because of his long-standing presence in the community and his undeniable charisma.
